It Takes Two to Tango…[Three] to Play Tennis
Amarcord Window Diaries, Volume 11
In the 1920’s, my guess is that people didn’t get hot. Either that, or the class of folks we’re spying on today were chillin’ in the Hamptons all summer and they had servants blotting their foreheads constantly - in between their frequent wardrobe changes.
I’m saying this because our cast today - Gertie, Charles & Bea - are sporting knitwear and wool…while playing tennis…in August. (Look, we never said this window dressing thing was realistic, ok?) Despite the assumed challenges with excessive sweating, this guy & his dolls do look pretty bad-ass.
The story: Charles and Gertie just took a quick tour ‘round the red clay courts at the Country Club, and have just returned to their summer bungalow to meet Bea for vodka martinis. Later, they’ll have a festive romp in the linen closet (unbeknownst to Bea, who secretly loves Charles), before rushing to dress for a dinner party on their neighbor’s yacht. During said party, Bea will do her best to seduce Charles, but she’ll end the evening in a desperately frustrated lip-lock with her 2nd choice: Robert LaFurla. He may not be a looker like Charles, but boys packin $$$$, so she goes home happy.
On our guests: Fresh from a friendly game of tennis, Gertie is wearing vintage Missoni, with gold cuff courtesy of Robert Lee Morris. Charles is head-to-toe in tennis whites, with a Pierre Cardin belt and leather document carrier. Bea, who’s dressed to impress, is in a gorgeous 1920s tangerine silk chiffon & lace number with a giant heap of pearls and some uncharacteristically warm knitwear…with peep-toes, of course.
