Natalie Joos of Tales of Endearment takes Byrdie Bell on a shopping extravaganza into Amarcord SoHo….and around the hood!

A sneak peak at Natalie’s post below, and photos here.

Byrdie Bell is a little anxious. In just a couple of days she will be moving to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. But it’s not the industry that’s freaking her out, nor the move – I’d personally be petrified to relocate out there – it’s the packing. “Deadlines are like death to me,” she shivers.

…..Byrdie loves vintage. I wish I could rummage through her boxes, but I’d risk sending the poor girl straight to the doctor for Xanax. So instead we go shopping – it’s a nice little distraction. We meet at One Model Management on Bond Street and make our way down Lafayette Street to Amarcord, one of my favorite vintage stores. Byrdie goes straight for the rock ’n roll/hippie pieces: a white fringed leather jacket, a black motorcycle vest, white bell bottoms and a leopard print bustier. I don’t mean to point out the obvious, but isn’t that the kind of stuff girls in LA wear? Is LA style seeping into Byrdie’s pores already? “Funny you ask that,” she laughs, “because I can already feel it happening and its terrifying me! I trust my friends will keep me straight.” I do my share of rescue therapy by putting her in a bright yellow Chanel jump suit, a pink Leonard gown and a YSL polka dot two-piece! Crisis averted, temporarily.

It’s rainy outside…but it’s a COLOR BLOCK PARTY in here!

We were feeling a little bit ’60s for the window this week in Williamsburg — so here you  have it — Mondrian mania!

Time Out New York sends a nod to Italian shopping in NYC….who’s at the top of their list? Amarcord, naturally.

Thanks, TONY!! xo

Here’s a peak at the article….

Style passport: Italy

Peep Italian-designer threads in the Met’s exhibit “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” (opens Thursday 10), then live la dolce vita at these local spots.

Amarcord
The name of this upscale vintage store means “I remember” in the Italian dialect of Romagna—a fitting moniker for a boutique filled with goods from as early as the 1800s. Owner and Rimini native Patti Bordoni stocks both locations with decades-old duds in pristine condition that she sources from frequent trips to her homeland. Expect to find well-known Italian designers such as Missoni, Dolce & Gabanna and Salvatore Ferragamo mixed in with other European labels that fit Amarcord’s edgy, mod aesthetic. The larger Soho space carries the majority of the higher-end pieces: To wit, we recently discovered a Gucci sheer tank ($80) and an ’80s Versace sequined bustier ($400). There’s also a plentiful men’s section, where we spotted a Dolce & Gabbana silk suit jacket ($125) and an Umberto slouchy knit sweater ($125), plus an abundance of Italian leather bags, such as a Vera Pelle large rugged duffle ($235) that’s ideal for weekend getaways. The Williamsburg spot is smaller and a bit more eclectic, featuring pieces such as an Oleg Cassini geometric-print men’s button-up ($125) and a ’70s embroidered maxidress ($145). 252 Lafayette St between Prince and Spring Sts (212-431-4161) • 223 Bedford Ave between North 4th and 5th Sts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-963-4001) • amarcordvintagefashion.com

The first few pages of our Inspiration Book in Williamsburg!

Spring/Summer 2012 is all about what feels FRESH.

Taking that vibe a bit seriously, we developed our Williamsburg window by sourcing fruity prints, inspired by the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Prada. That naturally extended into other springtime favs - nature, butterflies and florals.

The end result? What you see above! The rest, you’ll have to swing by to check out….
